The Short Play’s the Thing

These plays are designed for the boutique stage — where budget restraints and a small cast are a consideration. However these plays can be expanded to the larger stage if desired. Because the older male and female actors complain their opportunities for challenging roles are limited, many of my plays allow them to explore classical themes, and wonderful character roles.. All the following have been publicly performed some prize winning.

Two Women of France

When Colette — the French novelist, pits her wit and observation against Coco Chanel, the sparks fly. The writer — the couturier. High drama. 90 minutes. Single set.

Flaws In The Looking Glass

Elizabeth Arden who lives only for beauty tries to out manoeuvre a business woman who knew no equal. Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden. Each with their own agenda. Rivals till the end. High drama. 90 minutes. Split set. A play for two women.

Wilde Woman

Oscar Wilde’s niece is like a wild card — poor Dolly! A life drenched in drugs, dramas and dangerous liaisons. Lady Honey Harris tries to help — but This play, is once more set in Paris in the Belle Epoch era. 90 minutes. Two simple sets. Cast of two

Colette’s Feast

Set in wartime Paris Colette meets with a host of Parisian characters. Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas, Ernest Hemingway and more. Set in Madam Souty’s Soup Kitchen, the characters drift in and out, each creating their own diversions. Edith Piaf entertains throughout. 90 minutes. Single set.

What’s the matter with Dulcie?

This play examines the role of the wife of a Vietnam Veteran. Jim has his own issues and seeks refuge in the train room rather than communicate with poor Dulcie. A fractured relationship at best — do they solve their problems? Single set — mostly monologues. Two characters. 90 minutes.

The Short Straw

Drought in Australia has seen the land die and after seven years with no rain, George Williams sees no end. His farm is nothing but a dust bowl. His animals are all but dead or gone. Is there anything left to live for? Nancy Burrowes who lives in the nearby town of Eagleton is trying to come to terms with redundancy or is it retirement? Is optimism a ridiculous straw to cling to? A two hander. Two sets. 45 minutes.

A children’s spectacular designed for Schools and publically performed in North Qld.

A lavish Musical/drama featuring the history of Townsville. 3 Acts. Large cast. Performed for the Governor of Qld.
